2013 Chevy Spark Quick Review

taking a look at the 2013 Chevy spark this is Chevy’s new micro car for the US and it is a full 14 inches shorter than the Chevy Sonic we’re told so let’s hop in and take a look under the hood we have a smallest engine

that Chevy’s used in quite some time it’s a 1.2 liter four-cylinder engine dual overhead cam with variable valve timing produces 84 horsepower and 83 pound-feet of torque in the spark again it’s made it to either a four-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual and the fuel economy with the 5-speed manual is 28 miles per gallon in the city and 37 on the highway pardon us for our abnormal

we don’t have a tripod with us at this event you can see this is a roller bag largest roller bag you can carry on a domestic flight and that fits in the trunk area quite nicely the interesting thing about this trunk is this little cargo cover here hinges on these speakers so when you fold the seats forward like this in the car you still have this little speaker shelf sort of impeding

your cargo room in the back of the spark I think that’s a little bit of a problem other than that the cargo area is very well sized and but as you can see in the back the spark is a four seater you can see there’s a fixed little center console there between the rear seats has a cup holder this car is a solid four seater but it is a four-door and we get in the car don’t know

how we’ll be able to show you this but in the car it’s obvious this is a small car this headrest right here you can see this headrest is this is at its most upright position and it’s fairly low it hits me sort of right below the neck on my back and although Headroom is good and legroom is fairly good this front seats adjusted for a six foot three passenger that we had in the car

I can fit in here for a short trip or even a a medium-sized trip but I wouldn’t want to do it for too long but Headroom is a little bit limited and this headrest is just kind of in a strange position but that’s gonna be the same in any of these small cars so the Scion iQ the Fiat 500 they all have the same rear headrest issue because you they can’t go up any further really

a spark has a fairly nice interior although the plastics are hard and all sparks get this new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system from General Motors now the system has steering

wheel buttons as you can see on the steering wheel and the screen and graphics are excellent it does do navigation via a smartphone app but it doesn’t have any voice commands for browsing your iPod music library etc our particular model is equipped with Chevy’s 4-speed automatic transmission and this four-speed really is kind of a problem point in this particular vehicle I would probably get the 5-speed manual it not only is it more fun but it helps work this 85 horsepower engine better than this 4-speed automatic
