this is the search irako a brand new seven seater SUV to rival cars such as the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiak in this review will tell you everything you need to know about it including which

engine and trim to choose from and if you’re thinking about buying one head – what car calm and go to our new car deal section where we can help save you lots of money on this car or any other car

that you’re looking to buy this brand new and before you do that and before we get started make sure you’re subscribed to our YouTube channel click the bell icon so that you get notifications of

our new videos which come out every week so you can think of the Taraka is the boaty mcboatface of the car world no not because it’s a 15,000 ton 130 meter long research vessel designed for the

Antarctic but rather because you the general public voted for it the difference is that say it actually went with the moniker that 150 thousand people around the world voted for

instead of naming it after some Spanish naturalist now taco isn’t a made-up word it’s what the Spanish city of tarragon just down the coast of Barcelona it used

to be called the car itself is based on the Volkswagen Tiguan all space and Skoda kodiak and it sits at the top of certs SUV tree above the aronia and a checker but help us settle this family

feud which is the best-looking large SUV is it the set tarako volkswagen tiguan all space Skoda Kodiak or is it the perfect five thousand and eight vote in our poll inside the tarako it may have a

similar design layout to say as other SUVs but it’s definitely a step up with this one okay it’s not as futuristic as the Peugeot 5008 but there’s plenty of

soft touch materials which is on a par with the Skoda Kodiak or Volkswagen take one all space the dash is logically laid out and the buttons feel good quality

this eight-inch touchscreen comes a standard on all models apart from the entry-level SE and you get Android auto apple carplay dob radio there’s quite a lot of menus and submenus so it does

take some learning but generally it’s very slick and responsive it’s not as easy to hit buttons on the move compared with the rotary dial you get on say a

master cx-5 the viewer of the car is excellent and at there’s plenty of adjustment in the seats steering wheel so you should be able to find a

comfortable driving position plus you get adjustable lumbar support is standard which is brilliant the view out of the back is OK you do

have some bulky rear pillars which compromise your over-the-shoulder veer out of the back but at least alter ACOs get rear parking sensors to help with

maneuvering the tallest of occupants we’ll have plenty of room up front because there’s loads of headroom and the seats slide really far back plus storage is

pretty good as well because there’s a very large door bins more than enough room for this large bottle of water there’s some storage here with two

cupholders more here and another one here and the glovebox is a pretty good size as well all versions of the tarako come with sliding and reclining second

row of seats which means if you’re 6 foot tall you will have plenty of legroom and Headroom even if you go for the panoramic sunroof which the same

can’t be said for the Peugeot 5008 because as soon as you speck that roof it really eats into the second row Headroom but in the third row don’t

expect palatial accommodation teenagers or adults pretty much have to fold themselves in half to fit in and there’s no ice to fix child seat mountings back

there either if you need to carry seven or more just on the odd occasion that the five thousand eight or kodiak would be a better choice in addition to

sliding back and forth the second row of seats is split 40/20/40 so you can run skis or other long slim items down the center of the car and still carried two

rear passengers the two rear most seats meanwhile are light and easy to fold and lie flat enough that they don’t obstruct when loading heavy items in all three

seating configurations third row up third row down second row down the boot space is a match for the Volkswagen Tiguan all space but beaten by the Peugeot 5008

and what that means in the real world is that this car with five seats up can swallow eight carry-on suitcases whereas the Peugeot 5008 can swallow an

impressive ten and there’s plenty of hooks and d-rings so that you can secure loose items and some more storage underneath the boot floor unless you’d

expect the spare wheel in that case that’s where you’ll find it but how expensive is the tarako and what’s it like to own one these are the key things

you need to know about buying and owning a set to echo the set Torico has a higher starting price in both the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda kodiak however it

is still competitive spec for spec that’s great news if you’re buying on pcp but it is worth noting that the set tarako does not have as good fuel

economy as the pressure five thousand and eight models neither are its co2 emissions which is partly the reason why the tarako is more expensive to run as a company car than a

Peugeot 5008 entry-level se models are relatively well equipped you get 17-inch alloy wheels three zone climate control automatic wipers and folding door

mirrors we feel it’s worth upgrading to SC technology trim because you get up market features such as 18-inch alloy wheels and tinted rear windows SE it

does have a reasonable reputation for reliability but you do get a 60,000 mile 3-year warranty which is pretty standard in its class the Torico is a brilliantly

safe car safety experts euro and cap awarded it a very impressive full 5 star safety rating with particularly high scores for adult occupant protection the

kodiak 5008 and tigran also achieved five star ratings but the tarako outscored them all on its individual category schools for adult child and

pedestrian safety it comes at lots of kit to help avoid an accident in the first place with automatic emergency braking lane keeping assistance and a

driver drowsiness monitor all standard across the range the tarako engine lineup kicks off with a 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine badged 1.5 TSI evo it does impress in some other Volkswagen cars but under the

bonnet of this hefty car it just doesn’t really seem to have enough power in fact the 128 brake horsepower three-cylinder petrol engine in the Peugeot 5008 seems to offer more performance when pushed

harder then there’s a duo of diesels with 148 and 187 brake horsepower named the 2 TDI 150 and 119 respectively even the lower power at 150 still feels faster than the 1.5 TSI Evo and a

2-liter TDI 190 meanwhile is match for pace by a top-of-the-range 2-liter TSI 190 petrol but the diesel engine offers more effortless pulling power overall the 2-liter TDI 150 offers the best

balance of performance and economy fiat has chosen a firm suspension setup to give the tarako a sportier feel than its kodiak cousin but despite this and its hefty size the standard 18-inch wheels

let the set absorb most surface imperfections while smoothing out drain covers and motorway expansion joints easily take the torah code down a

country road with lots of dips and crests and things feel less settled if you’re in a Skoda Kodiak Peugeot 5008 or Volkswagen Tiguan all space they all feel and not more comparing

the tarako is the first set to be offered with 20-inch alloy wheels and those do not disguise the little bumps quite as convincingly as the 18-inch alloys do and that firm suspension does

mean a sportier ride so there’s less lean into the corners than in a Peugeot 5008 or Skoda kodiak but it’s not quite as agile as the smaller intake more

positively it’s a doddle to thread through traffic and place accurately on sweeping corners thanks to its precise steering which weights up reassuringly

on faster roads all of the trio’s engines are pleasantly muted even the 2-liter TDI 190 diesel only hums noticeably when worked hard there’s very little wind and road noise audible from

inside which makes for comfortable motorway travel the 6-speed manual gearbox has a slick gear change although the clutch pedal can feel a

little numb by comparison the 7-speed automatic is a little sluggish and can be a little bit reluctant to chan down when you even want it to there’s a lo
to like about the Scirocco it’s enjoyable to drive generously equipped and it’s one of the safest cars in clam .
